What We Do

Name of Project:

Information Management in the Area of Weapons of Mass Destruction

UNLIREC lends support to States in managing information related to weapons of mass destruction, in particular chemical weapons, with the aim of strengthening their capacity to effectively respond in the event of a chemical accident or attack. This entails the creation of an emergency-response unit, taking into consideration both the human (expert personnel) and economic resources needed, as well as the equipment required (decontamination, protection and detection equipment and alarms systems) and the elaboration of a plan of action and adjoining contingency plan.

Member States are able to access up-to-date information on the legal status of national legislation related to chemical weapons and the developmental benefits stemming from technologies used for monitoring non-proliferation instruments.

Target Group:

National authorities (Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of National or Public Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, etc.)

  • Assess State capacity to respond in the case of a chemical attack or accident.
  • Support the elaboration of a plan of action and contingency plan.
